Nanaka 6/17 is a rather peculiar title for an anime, isn't it? Might remind some of Ranma 1/2, but more strange... due to the fact that "1/2" makes sense, but the fraction of "6/17" does not. O.o;;; WARNING: Spoilers for episode one are rampant through here. If you wish not to Spoil yourself... then Please Leave!!! That's what I [Lin] thought at first, too, when I saw the title... noticed how odd it was. I guess that is what intrigued me in the first place to download this anime. ^^; So... I did... not knowing what I'd get myself into... :P I open up the first episode... and it goes right into this spikey-haired boy in a messy school uniform ringing a bell of somebody's home. An old man answers, calling out the name "Nenji". Ok... that's cool. The old man greets him and tells him that Nanaka is just watching some old reruns of an anime (har har ^o^;)... and says something like that it's "Magical Dominko"... and then Nenji sighs, a bit annoyed looking. ^^; After that, they show a shot of a girl with purple hair starring at a tv screen... then she says out loud "Magikaru Domikaru~!"... ^^; Nenji is a bit annoyed and announces that they'll be late for school... so they go and march off. At the end of that as Nanaka and Nenji walk to school, she announces that she is "Kirisato Nanaka, age 6!"... O.o;
The bubbly and catchy opening song kicks in... which drew me in even more! You can't help but bounce along with the song. The group called FUNTA sings this catchy tune! (as far as I know they also sing the opening of another anime called Pita Ten... ^^;) During episode 1, we find out why Nanaka looks older, yet acts like a little 6 year old. After the opening song, we come to an abrupt scene of what appears to be a meaner version of... Nenji...?!? O.o; Him and some other guys are out in what appears to be a field and the bigger guy is yelling stuff at him. Then the big guy charges at him, but with one elbow blow to his head, he's down. Next scene we see a very serious-looking Nanaka lecturing Nenji about picking fights... and that he should grow up. He tells her to basically shut the hell up and tells her to just never talk to him again. Nanaka's shocked, and next we know it, Nenji finds that she has somehow fallen down a flight of stairs. There are some flashback scenes of how their relationship was... how Nanaka seems to have these fainting spells, and always has her nose stuck in a book. All the other girls don't seem to like her much, and make fun of her constantly. After a short while, they end up in the hospital room, and Nanaka's opened her eyes. Nenji is by her side (awww!), and she sits up. She asks him who he is ("Dare?")... and blinks some more. He gets semi upset at her, and she asks him again who he is. Then she says, after rubbing her eyes a bit, that she cannot see. So he hands her glasses over and then she puts them back on. She stares at the smiling Nenji a bit more, and asks again who he is! >.< Amnesia? O.o; So they sit and talk a bit and we find out that Nanaka has somehow regressed back to a 6 year old. So essentially, she has a 6 year old mind stuck in a 17 year old body. ^^; And thus answers the questions about why this anime is called Nanaka 6/17!... ^^;
