// This is just a nice roleplay session with Stephanie.
// Setting is Lonar, Enkida and Stephanie were having
// a meal in the pub there.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: some upheavals in the magic potentials, mages are
rather busy
Stephanie's eyes narrow and focus onto some point in midair.

You say in xyllic: Is there a necromancer causing these things?

Stephanie sings in xyllic: i doubt it
Stephanie sings in xyllic: the potentials have for the most part stopped
reducing

You raise an eyebrow.
You say in xyllic: The mages no longer require it for their magics?

Stephanie sings in xyllic: we still need it
Stephanie sings in xyllic: normally it's in a costant decline
Stephanie sings in xyllic: but a few days ago it stopped

You say in xyllic: I would think most magicians would be rejoicing over this
sort of news.

Stephanie's facial features become tense for a moment.
Stephanie sings in xyllic: well, it's a double edged sword, we can't increase
the potentials either

You say in xyllic: Then the question becomes where the potential has halted.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: good news for the mages living in atlantis, less
so for some living in other areas
Stephanie goes hmmmm.
Stephanie sings in xyllic: almost everywhere

You say in xyllic: My meaning was at what level.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: yucatan is the only place i've noticed it's still
in decline

You nod.
You say in xyllic: Has some explanation for this been found yet?

Enkida: I have learned something of interest which concerns the
magicians at the moment.
 Norima: Oh?
Enkida: Apparently, the 'magical potential' of almost all areas in
the world, excluding the Yucutan, has ceased to decline.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: it's not unknown for the flow of magic to suffer
some huge change every so often

Enkida: In the same vein, magicians are finding themselves no
longer able to raise the potential, either.
Norima: That sounds more than just a little odd.
Norima: Do they have any idea why this might be so?
Enkida: So far, I have heard of no explanation for this change,
although the mage I am speaking with says, it is not uncommon for the flow
of magic to experience extreme changes infrequently.

Stephanie seems to be slightly unaware of her surroundings for a moment.
Stephanie sings in xyllic: there've been 3 or 4 similar since i became a mage
Stephanie sings in xyllic: usually it's impossible to isolate a cause

Enkida: I am speaking with an Alliance magician at the moment.
Perhaps asking an ally such as Tashala would be more informative, however.
Norima: That is surely true, I have heard that several times.. but
not that a change was so.. "worldwide"..

You nod to Stephanie.

Norima: May I ask with whom you are talking?
Enkida: Of course. Her name is Stephanie.

Hmmmmm.
You say in xyllic: So it is not a cause of major concern to most magicians ..
not seen as an attack or tampering of some sorts, that is, but rather natural.

Norima: I see.. we should keep that in mind and talk with some
others, too. WIll you post a note?

Stephanie goes hmmmm.

 Enkida: I shall do so.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: the magic potentials spread across all the planes,
it's possible someone did something on one of the others that caused this

You say in xyllic: Creatures and demons are things which are summoned from
these other planes, yes?

Stephanie nods.
Stephanie sings in xyllic: the magic potentials flow from the elemental
planes to xyllomer, and from xyllomer towards the demonic planes

You say in xyllic: Have you noticed changes within your own summonings?
Demons becoming stronger or creatures weaker? That would be a concern.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: i haven't noticed that

You say in xyllic: But you can still summon .. so the planar connection has
not been entirely severed.

Stephanie goes hmmmm.
Stephanie sings in xyllic: no

You say in xyllic: You cannot summon?

Stephanie sings in xyllic: i can give an analogy of a sort

You nod.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: we can still summon
Stephanie sings in xyllic: when a mage says magic potential they're referring
to the concentration of magic in that area

You nod slightly.
You say in xyllic: But if the energy used to flow in from the elemental plane
and out towards the demonic plane, and has stopped now, it indicates that
some tie has been severed, or at least blocked.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: not necessarily
Stephanie sings in xyllic: well, it's not the best analogy, but some like to
call the potentials a river
Stephanie sings in xyllic: it's very strong where the elemental planes are,
very weak at the demonic planes, and somewhere in between for us

You nod.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: you could consider that xyllomer floats on the
river, normally we're constantly being dragged towards the weaker area
Stephanie sings in xyllic: or when mages do energy rites we move up to a
stronger area
Stephanie sings in xyllic: at the moment it's as if we're fixed in place

You nod.
You say in xyllic: I see. But then why does the Yucutan still decline
independently from the rest of the world?

Stephanie sings in xyllic: most likely the necromancers have found a way to
reduce the potential again

You frown. Is something wrong?

Stephanie sings in xyllic: i don't doubt we'll find a way to raise it before
long

You nod.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: the different regions of xyllomer are somewhat
independent with respect to the magic potential
Stephanie sings in xyllic: the river analogy isn't really a good one

You say in xyllic: It is suitable.
You say in xyllic: In any case, I am not a magician myself, and so it is most
likely, beyond my comprehension if explained thoroughly.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: it seems like a flow to us, but it's also possible
the potentials are static, and it's the world of xyllomer that moves

You say in xyllic: I would not like to think that Xyllomer is adrift in a
constant march towards the demonic planes.

Stephanie goes hmmmm.
Stephanie nods.

You say in xyllic: I hope you will forgive my boldness, but I would not trust
the safety of the world in this case, to the fickle whims of magicians. I
cannot believe that.

Stephanie smiles.
Stephanie sings in xyllic: you can trust us to act in our own interests, most
of the time

You say in xyllic: That is sometimes what I fear.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: it's to our benefit to keep the potentials as high
as possible

You nod to Stephanie.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: in any case i think there's a limit to how close
we can move
Stephanie sings in xyllic: the potentials never fall below a certain level

You nod relievedly.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: we call it a 0 potential, but it's not since we
can still do a little magic
Stephanie sings in xyllic: and it won't improve beyond a certain level either

You say in xyllic: I would not want Xyllomer to be immersed in the elemental
planes, either.

Stephanie nods.
Stephanie sings in xyllic: supposedly the elemental islands are the closest
point to them

You say in xyllic: Elemental islands?

Stephanie sings in xyllic: they're not very hospitable

You say in xyllic: I have heard rumours of such places, but no means or
desire to visit them.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: some islands west of primordia and east of morisot

You nod.

Stephanie takes a deep breath and looks concentrated.
Stephanie sings in xyllic: actually they're not very interesting
Stephanie goes hmmmm.

You nod.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: though it might be worth seeing what the potential
there is

You say in xyllic: If you have a means to reach the islands, I would be
interested in knowing the result.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: that depends if the crew of my ship hasn't deserted

You smile.
You say in xyllic: I know as much of sailing as I do of magic, so I cannot
assist you in this matter.

Stephanie nods.
Stephanie sings in xyllic: the islands resist efforts to teleport to them
Stephanie sings in xyllic: so we have to sail every time

You say in xyllic: Strange, that an island so attuned to magic would not
allow for it.

Stephanie sings in xyllic: life's never easier than it has to be

You agree.
